CompPrep AI

Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 7, 2026 · Version: 2026-10-08

CompPrep AI ("CompPrep AI," "we," "us") is run by CompPrep AI, based in Texas. This policy explains what information we collect, why, who sees it, and how you control it. We wrote it to be read by students, parents, and advisors, not just lawyers.

The short version

Your birth month and year. We ask once, during sign-up, to confirm you're 13 or older. We do not store it.

Notifications. If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a device address and keys. We use them only to send the alerts you picked (announcements, check-in, streak reminders, competition countdowns), through your browser maker's push service (for example Google for Chrome, Apple for Safari, Mozilla for Firefox). Turn them off anytime in Profile. Advisors also get a weekly summary email about their chapter, which they can turn off in Profile or from the email.

Weekly recap. On Sunday evenings we email students who practiced a summary of their week. Turn it off in Profile or from the email.

Reminder emails and calendar links. We email reminders a week and a day before your official competition dates. Every reminder has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can turn them off in your Profile. Your phone calendar link is private to you; anyone with it can see your competition dates and chapter events, so you can make a new link anytime.

Voice practice. When you practice out loud with the AI judge on the web, your browser's built-in speech recognition turns your voice into text (for example, Chrome uses Google's speech service and Safari uses Apple's, under their own privacy terms). CompPrep AI never receives or stores your audio, only the text. You can always type instead. We keep the transcript so you can review feedback, until you delete it or your account. AI coach conversations are not saved on our servers; they stay on your device until you leave the screen.

Information collected automatically

What we don't collect: precise or approximate location, contacts, photos, advertising identifiers, browsing history in other apps, or your birthday.

3. How we use information

We use information only to:

  1. Provide the Service: accounts, chapters, attendance, points, announcements, practice tools, and AI feedback.
  2. Keep the Service safe: verify advisors, prevent abuse, and investigate problems.
  3. Improve the Service, using aggregated or de-identified statistics (for example, "40% of questions in this topic are answered wrong").
  4. Communicate with you: account and security emails, and product news only if you opt in.
  5. Follow the law.

We don't sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or build advertising profiles. We don't use your content to train AI models.

4. AI features

Practice questions, AI coach answers, and AI judge feedback are produced by Claude, an AI model provided by Anthropic through its commercial API. To generate feedback, we send the provider the question or scenario, your written response or transcript, and your event, but not your name or email. Anthropic does not use inputs or outputs from its commercial API to train its models by default, and we never opt in to sharing your content with them for training.

AI feedback can be wrong. It is practice help, not an official score, and it does not predict how real judges will score you.

5. Who we share information with

Provider What they do Data they handle

Resend Sends account emails (confirm your email, reset your password) and competition reminder emails Your email address, first name and the email's contents

6. Students, parents, and schools

Under 13: CompPrep AI is not for children under 13. Our sign-up screen blocks anyone who enters an age under 13 and deletes their sign-in record. If we learn we have information from a child under 13, we delete it. Parents who believe this has happened can email privacy@compprep.app.

Teens 13–17: Parents and guardians can ask to review, correct, or delete their teen's information by emailing privacy@compprep.app from their own email. We'll verify the request before acting.

Schools: When a school or district signs an agreement with us, we process student information on the school's behalf, for the school's educational purposes only. In that case we act as a "school official" under FERPA, and the school controls the records. We will sign a student data privacy agreement on request.

App stores: Where the law requires (for example, Texas), we use the age and parental-consent information provided by the Apple App Store or Google Play only to apply age-appropriate settings and to comply with the law.

8. Your choices and rights

In the app, under Profile, you can:

You can also email privacy@compprep.app to access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your information, or to appeal a decision we made about your request. We respond within 45 days. Depending on where you live (including Texas, California, and other states with privacy laws), you may have additional rights; we honor them for everyone. We won't treat you differently for using your privacy rights.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, database rules that limit each person to the data their role allows, and access logging. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects your information, we'll notify you and anyone else the law requires.

10. Changes

If we make a material change, we'll tell you in the app and ask you to review it before you continue. The version and effective date are at the top of this page.
